 Guishard talks with Roy Allan Burch IslandStats.com National Sports Governing Bodies have now all submitted the names of their athletes for the Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for July 22-31 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
General Secretary of the Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA), Philip Guishard told ww.islandstats.com, “The BOA Council will meet next week to ratify the Team that will represent Bermuda at the games”.
Meanwhile, the signature installations for the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games paint an impressive picture as was appreciated during a recent fly-by. Jorse Sosa, Esq., Executive Director of Mayagüez 2010 demonstrated his satisfaction with the development of the venues. "Mayagüez certainly looks like what it is, host city of the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games," he said.
The Isidoro García Park, the Central American and Caribbean Athletic Stadium, the Aquatic Complex, the Central American Villa, the Sports and Recreation Palace and the International Zone were some of the venues that were seen from above during the helicopter fly-by.
The Isidoro García Park, installation for the Baseball games, can accomodate 10,500 fans while the Athletic Stadium can accomodate 11,800 fans and will be host for Athletism, Football, and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
The Aquatic Complex in the Mayagüez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico has three pools: an olympic competition pool, a practice pool, and a diving pool. The Aquatic Complex will houe the Diving competitions (July 19-24), Swimming (July 18-23), Synchronized Swimming (July 25-31), and Aquatic Polo (July 26-31).
The Central American Villa, within Barrio El Maní in Mayagüez is composed of 386 apartments, 344 of which are meant for athletes and the rest for Chefs de Mission, Medical Services, and Administrative offices for the Villa. They are composed of 11 buildings, six-floors each, and are buit in the walk up style, with the capacity to house 3800 athletes. The International Zone is close to the complex, and will offer a series of services for the Villa's inhabitants, some free of charge, and some billable. Some of the services include phone services, a mini market, a beauty salon, postal office, banking services, religious services, print and photo services, and internet access.
Last but not least, the Sports and Recreation Palace will play host to the Volleyball events and the Basketball finals.
