Shelly Pearson’s quest to represent Bermuda at the 2012 Olympics begins on Friday, Pearson is off the Boston to a Scull Training Camp.
Pearson and her father Kevin Pearson the 1983 May 24th Champion sat down and talked to www.islandstats.com about the challenge ahead and more.
“Scull will be the only way I will be able to represent Bermuda at the Olympics”, said Shelly Pearson. “Racing in the Scull boat, I have until an event in 2011 to qualify for the Olympics, I don’t really row the scull although I have rowed in the boat before it’s a bit more technical and that is why I am going to the camp to see if it something that I am any good at”.
“I currently row in a boat with eight people, but for Bermuda I am trying to qualify in a single boat, which as I said is a little more technical”, continued Shelly Pearson. Kevin Pearson said, “The fitness is there for her already, she just has to get use to rowing on her own which is a little different from what she is doing now”.
“Last year I spent time with the USA Under 23 National Rowing Team in a camp, that was an experience, I want to give myself every opportunity to represent Bermuda at the Olympics, but if I am invited by the USA I would need to make a decision. However I am going to give it my best shot to represent Bermuda”, continued Shelly Pearson.
“I am extremely proud of her accomplishments thus far, she will be now stepping up from the Junior Level to the Senior Level which will be somewhat of a challenge but I have all the confidence she can adjust”, concluded Kevin Pearson.
