BOA Announce Murphy in Games

The Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA) today officially announced that Tucker Murphy will represent Bermuda at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada. The XXI Olympic Winter Games, which commence on 12 February, are the sixth Winter Olympics in which Bermuda will participate.

Murphy, will compete in the Men’s 15K Free Individual Start crosscountry ski event. This competition will be held at Whistler Olympic Park on 15 February at 12:30 p.m. PST (4:30 p.m. AST). The Vancouver Games will be Murphy’s first Olympics.

Murphy will also carry the Bermuda flag in the Opening Ceremonies on
February 12th.

Carol Bromby is the Chef-de-Mission for Bermuda’s team, having carried out that responsibility in Turin, Italy four (4) years ago. Michael Murphy will act as Manager, and the athlete’s Coach is Martin Bianchi of Argentina.

Judy Simons, BOA President said, “The BOA congratulates Murphy on his significant achievement in qualifying for the 2010 Games. He has already done us proud and we wish him the very best in competition. We are pleased to have helped play a part in his journey to success.”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is responsible for the all of the games that take place under its authority, and has affiliates in over 200 counties and geographical areas. The IOC provides for the attendance of all of its country representatives at their Olympic Games, and in order to facilitate having Presidents and Secretaries General present in support of its events, the IOC provides for travel and accommodation for these representatives.

Accordingly, BOA President, Simons, and BOA Secretary General, Philip Guishard will also attend the Games as guests of the International Olympic Association, joining executive delegates from 204 other National Olympic Committees.
