Sophomore Isabella Boonstra broke a scoreless deadlock with 1:13 remaining in the third quarter as 19th-ranked Babson College defeated Wesleyan University, 1-0, in Non-Conference Field Hockey action at Smith Field.
Babson, which won its sixth consecutive game, improves to 11-3 on the year, while Wesleyan slipped to 5-7 with its third straight one-goal loss.
Junior Maddy Paro contributed an assist and sophomore goalkeeper Cassidy Riley made three saves, all in the second half, for Babson.
Senior goalkeeper Delaney Wood made seven of her eight saves over the final 30 minutes for Wesleyan, who were outshot 25-9 in the match by Babson.
After combining to put just one shot on goal in the opening half, Babson forced Wood to make three saves over the first 5:09 of the third quarter. Riley made her first save of the afternoon when she kicked away sophomore Paris Cipollone's one-timer in the 42nd minute, and Boonstra redirected Paro's shot less than two minutes later to put Babson in front with her first career goal.
Riley kicked away first-year Diana Schwarz's bid to tie the game in the 49th minute and denied her again in the 58th minute with a stick save to secure her fourth shutout of the season.
