Bermuda’s Under 19 team got their Rugby America’s North 15’s Rugby Tournament in Jamaica underway with a draw and a win.
Bermuda 7 Mexico 7
With under five minutes to go in the first half, with Mexico leading the referee took both teams off the field of play as a front that included lightening was approaching.
After nearly an hour delay, the match resumed, and with just under 9 minutes to go in the second half Bermuda leveled the match, as Brandon Sangster went over for a Try, and with Kwame Naylor making the Conversion it made it 7 – 7.
In torrential rain, neither team was able to break through to convert another score as the match ended 7 – 7.
Cayman Islands 0 Bermuda 29
Bermuda then took on the Cayman Islands, Bermuda took an early lead with a Noah Botelho Try and a Naylir Conversion taking a 7 – 0 lead. Bermuda captain Faizon Augustus made a timely interception deep in his half of the field and he would outpace the Cayman Islands defenders in hot pursuit to score and make it 12 – 0, Naylor hit the Conversion making it 14 – 0.
Naylor converted a Penalty on the stroke of half-time to extend the Bermuda lead to 17 – 0.
Augustus once again outpaced the Cayman Islands team from deep in his half to score his second Try of the game to make it 22 – 0, and Naylor kicked the Conversion to make it 24 – 0.
Sylas Young from just in his half held off three defenders to score and give Bermuda a 29 – 0 lead, but Naylor just missed the Conversion.
Bermuda would display a commanding performance to not allow the Cayman Islands to score.
