Open Mat Bermuda (Jiu Jitsu Academy) raked in the medals after representing Bermuda in an International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) hosted tournament, held in Las Vegas. The IBJJF is considered the most prominent organization in the sport of Jiu Jitsu.
Four competitors took to the mats during the four day, Single-Elimination event, which attracted thousands of international participants.
Ryce Lima fought her way through the brackets, winning herself a Gold Medal in the White Belt Adult Ultra Heavyweight Division, cementing her place in history as the first Bermuda-born female athlete to medal at an IBJJF event.
James Adams earned a Silver Medal in the White Belt Master 1, Heavyweight Division, while Chris Regan, OMB Coach and member of the BPS, brought home a Bronze Medal in the Black Belt Adult Nogi Heavyweight Division.
Open Mat Bermuda is under the direction and coaching of Aaron Dyer and Regan. They are located on 8 Mills Creek Road and offer a free month to any prospective members who want the opportunity to learn a new skill through the art of Jiu Jitsu.
