Bermuda, when I got the message that Michael Sharpe had passed, I instantly thought, oh no, here come all the condolences, most disingenuous.
Many will use flowery language to speak of a person they cast away while he was alive. Suddenly forgetful of the way they treated him.
It is no secret when I started Islandstats, a new way of delivering sports in Bermuda, things changed. At first, Mike did not agree, but he knew times were changing and he eventually he told me just that. Times have changed.
But when I talk about why wait, Mike was on this earth for 65 years, he has done Bermuda proud in so many ways, but near the end of his career, he was not treated well by his employer whom I dare say used him and dangled so many things in front of him that put him in a corner.
Hypocrisy, thy home is Fort Hill Devonshire.
Now Mike has passed, so many are showering him with accolades when that should have been done while he was still with us. Give people their flowers while they’re still here to enjoy them.
Mike, I respect what you helped me to achieve. I will continue to build on what you started.
