Last week www.islandstats.com reported that Peter Dunne and Julia Hawley were elected to the Bermuda Olympic Association Executive Board.
Dunne was elected to the position of 2nd Vice President, while Hawley is the newly elected Treasurer.
We asked the pair for comments regarding what they are hoping to accomplish during your time on the board, and why they felt it is important to get involved at the administration level of the BOA.
Hawley said, "I am very pleased to have been elected to the BOA Board as the new Treasurer. I have been involved in sport my whole life and been lucky enough to represent Bermuda on the world stage myself and have always wanted to be able to 'give back' in a very meaningful way once I had the time.
I have had a wonderful career in the corporate accounting world and can now put all those experiences to use in the BOA Treasurer role.
Importantly I also have the time to commit to this demanding role within the BOA. I am very much looking forward to supporting Bermuda's athletes and of course the Board and staff of the BOA with the goal of ensuring the best opportunities for our athletes while delivering the best governance around the Treasurer/accounting roles."
Dunne said, “At the BOA I’m hoping to contribute to the various athletes, through their sports federation, to better understand the opportunities that are available for athlete development from the Olympic organization.
And I hope, to the best of my ability, to be as enthusiastically supportive as Stan Douglas was, both for athletes and federations.
Stan always had a positive word for athletes, giving them the vocal support that is critical in their feeling like someone is aware of the hard work that is required to be a performance athlete.
Beyond these very general areas, I am available to support the efforts of the team at the BOA to enhance the sporting experiences of all involved.”
