Premier David Burt IslandStats.com During the COVID-19 Update, earlier this evening, Premier David Burt stated, “The reality is that this outbreak is not yet fully contained, and the Cabinet following the advice of the Minister of Health has agreed to extend the current restrictions in place for another two weeks from December 22nd.
This is certainly not the news anyone wanted to hear, and not the news that I wished to deliver, but it is vital that we get full control this outbreak so that we can return to a place where our virus management was envied.
There may be some minor changes that will be detailed at next week’s press conference.
A hasty exit from the restrictions could lead to us having to reimpose restrictions at a later date, and that is not something that any members of the Government wish to do.”
This statement affects three major events that take place annually over the Christmas Holiday period, the Bermuda Football Association’s Shield and Friendship Semi-Finals and Final, Bermuda Harness Pony Racing and Bermuda Motocross Racing, all three have events on Boxing Day and New Years Day.
www.islandstats.com reached out to the Bermuda Football Association Chairman of Competitions Shannon Burgess to get a comment regarding the latest announcement.
Chairman Burgess said, “The competitions committee will discuss scenarios when we have a clear indication of when football can recommence. We will engage with the relevant ministries when the time is right. Until then, we will be unable to determine what will happen with the remainder of the season.”
