With the announcement of the ITU Grand Final being held in Bermuda in 2021 announced by the International Triathlon Union yesterday, some locally have growing concern about the current makeup of the Local Organizing Committee.
www.islandstats.com can confirm that at present the Local Organizing Committee are not at a full complement of people to put the 2019 event together.
www.islandstats.com posted a few questions to the Bermuda Tourism Authority who have taken credit for the event.
In a response to an email regarding the chairman position which is currently vacant as well as other positions, Glenn Jones the Director of Strategy & Corporate Communications would only state:
The World Triathlon Series Bermuda is led by a Local Organizing Committee made up the Bermuda Tourism Authority, the Bermuda Triathlon Association, the Bermuda Government, etc.. along with our international race management partner Upsolut;
In July 2018, WTS Bermuda advertised a role for a WTS Project Manager for the 2019 event, and candidates are being reviewed. This would fill the vacancy left by Phil Schmidt, who moved back to Germany;
With only 7 months before the 2019 event, it would seem that whomever takes over will have a short time to get up to speed.
