2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will get underway with Caitlin Conyers competing in the Womens Elite Individual Time Trial.
Conyers posted on social media, "Anyone that has followed my cycling journey the last few years will know that I missed my first chance to do a World Championships in 2021 because of a positive covid test, and then missed Commonwealth Games last year because I got covid.
I’ve been so scared to post anything about this World Championships for fear of it all falling apart again. After all of the work that goes into preparing for these events, mentally and physically, one of the biggest heartbreaks is to not make it to the start line, especially when you don’t know if you’ll ever get another chance at it.
But I’m here. I’m healthy and happy and feeling strong. I showed up a week ago not knowing anyone in Scotland, and I’ll leave with a list of people that I’ll never forget. People that have just met me, but believe in me, and have been willing to open their homes and cars, and up-ended their life for a week+, to be there for me. Words can’t express how grateful I am."
