Bermuda Bow Out of the Under 17 Championships

Bermuda’s Under U17 National Squad Team took on Honduras in their first match at Estadio Pensativo (Guatemala) as the 2023 CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Championship Round of 16 got underway.

Honduras Starting Line-Up: Rodbin Mejia, David Herrera, Brayan Vaquedano, Jordan Garcia, Jonathan Bueso, Nixon Cruz, Daylor Cacho, Edwin Munguía, Roberto Osorto, Bryan Saenz, Russel Cruz - Bermuda: Keyan Webb (Nathaniel Swan 72nd), Luke Fulton, Nayan Grant (Daqaio Stewart 35th & Chance Eve 68th), Jannis Roberts, Daion Swan-Desilva (Qur’An Raynor 72ndh), Enoch Joseph, Xahvi Deroza, Hayden Dill, Jutorre Burgess, Malachi Henry

Bermuda would go down 6 – 0, after being down to 10 men in the 25th minute and 4 – 0 at the half.

Honduras took the lead from a set piece, a free kick was floated into the box and was met by Russel Cruz in the 21st minute and he headed the ball home. Edwin Munguía doubled the lead in the 24th minute from another free kick, Bermuda’s goalkeeper Keyan Webb, unfortunately, had the ball go in under his body. In the 25th minute, Bermuda was reduced to 10 men when Malachi Henry received a straight red card, and then two minutes later it was 3 – 0 as a Roberto Osorto free kick beat Webb to the near post from yet another free kick. In the 37th minute a back pass was intercepted and Nixon Cruz scored his first goal of the game making it 4 – 0.

In the 54th minute Honduras went ahead 5 – 0, yet another set piece, Jordan Garcia scored from a corner, and then in the 67th minute it was 6 – 0, as Nayrobi Vargas scored from a goal mouth scramble following a corner.
