NAHKI WELLS

Tomas Kalas provided a captain’s contribution with the winning goal against Coventry City on the opening day of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship season.

The center-back announced as Nahki Wells and his Bristol City teammates new club captain an hour before kick-off, headed home from a late corner to seal the points at Ashton Gate.

Jamie Paterson had scored just 20 seconds into the campaign with a close-range finish, though the Sky Blues battled back through Matt Godden.

Newly-promoted Coventry proved a handful, particularly in the first half but Dan Bentley kept Dean Holden’s men in the contest before Kalas nodded in the winner less than 10 minutes from the end.

DALE EVE

Goals from Mark Anderson and Frank Mulhern in the final ten minutes were the difference as Dale Eve and his Spennymoor Town teammates continued pre-season with another win despite a second-half fightback from Lancaster.

Spennymoor let a commanding two-goal lead slip after a flurry of substitutions, but Anderson’s assured finish made it four wins from four in pre-season.

The home side began the game with a spring in their step knowing their first league clash was a week away, with Eve having to save an effort from the edge of the box.

Eve sprang into action to punch away before Glenn Taylor was on defensive duties, clearing a goal-bound effort off the line.

KOLE HALL

Kole Hall and his Radcliffe FC teammates brushed aside Chorley 3-1 in a Pre-Season Friendly.

Hall fired home into the roof of the net to give Radcliffe an early lead, while Luca Navarro added two goals in the second half for the win.

JUSTIN DONAWA

Justin Donawa and his Darlington teammates took to the field for their first friendly in front of paying fans, and almost 100 have made their way across from Darlington to see the game on a 3G pitch, as they took on Scarborough, from the NPL Premier Division.

Darlington took the lead on 18 minutes when Ben Hedley split the Scarborough defense for Donawa to control, and he coolly blasted the ball past the keeper.

It was 2-0 on 28 minutes when Adam Campbell picked the ball up on the left corner of the box, spotted the keeper off his line, and curled a delightful right-foot shot over the helpless keeper.

But the home team would stage a comeback and score three times to pick up the 3 – 2 win.
