Vanessa Esposito and her UMBC Women's Swimming teammates closed in outstanding fashion and passed Vermont to finish second in the 2020-21 America East Swimming & Diving Championships held at NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
Senior captain Esposito completed her career on a high note.
Esposito competed in the Women’s 1000 Yard Freestyle finishing 5th touching the wall in a Personal Best time of 10:29.04.
"As captain, I have never been as proud of our team as we are today," said Esposito. "This year has thrown so many challenges our team's way, just a few weeks ago we did not think we would be competing at our conference championships. To come in with zero points and climb all the way up to finish second overall is truly a testament to how resilient, strong, and amazing our women's team is.
"Every girl on the team, even those who were not at the meet with us, share this incredible accomplishment and we wouldn't have been able to do this without the support of one another. Also, a special shout out to Meghan Sullivan, Gary Wohlstetter, Stacy Carone, Brian Barrio, and Elyse Gibson for all of their support when we needed it the most. We are incredibly proud to call ourselves Dawgs today".
