Bermuda will be participating in the inaugural CAZOVA Under 23 Beach Volleyball Tour this year.
CAZOVA is the Caribbean Zone of the North & Central American volleyball group or NORCECA.
The Bermuda Volleyball Association (BVA) is proud to announce their teams for Leg #1 of the Under 23 Tour taking place in Trinidad & Tobago from August 19th – 21st, 2022.
Bermuda's Men's team consists of Connor Somerville and Ben Barnett while the Women are represented by Amber Simons and Kaylee Trott.
All four athletes have come up through the BVA's junior programs and have made the transition from indoor to Beach Volleyball.
Denise Somerville, travelling coach and team manager, is confident in the team’s ability to perform at a very high level and ready for the challenge. “There is a lot of passion and excitement coming from these young players, and with the determination and dedication they have shown during training and tournaments locally is remarkable. They are locked and loaded and ready to represent their country."
Bermuda's teams have benefited from the skills of visiting FIVB Coach Amilton Barreto de Barros Jr. Coach Amilton is on contract with the FIVB to visit different countries and help bring their athletes to the next level. He has been in Bermuda for the past 3 months, working with Bermuda's Beach Volleyball athletes.
BVA Co-President, Elisabeth Rae said, "The international experience of Coach Amilton has been invaluable in the preparation of Bermuda's teams for the Under 23 Tour. The BVA is very excited about the development of it's beach volleyball program, and look forward to continued participation in the Caribbean Zone".
Bermuda will also be participating in the second leg of the Trinidad & Tobago Under 23 Beach tour from August 26th – 28th, 2022.
The BVA will be sending another Under 23 Women's team, made up of Megan Hands and Natalie Gazzard, the travelling coach for leg #2 is Jonathan Gazzard.
