Rye Ahronson IslandStats.com The Bermuda Basketball Youth Federation announced today that 47 players including 38 boys and 9 girls have just arrived today to Pennsylvania to attend a ten day camp and tournament at Slippery Rock and Susquehanna Universities to play against teams from the United States and Canada.
Last year team Bermuda faced teams from a wide area of high schools like Virginia’s Dominion High, Prep Charter from Pennsylvania, Baddle River Day from New Jersey, New York’s Fulton High and Marcellus High, and James Wood also from Virginia.
This year’s players will have the opportunity to compete against teams from the Philly Triple Threat organization and teams from Canada while meeting college coaches and scouts who have expressed interest in recruiting players from Bermuda’s national teams.
Charles Peters, the recently appointed president and director of the BBYF has high hopes for the Bermuda teams, stating “This is by far the most talented group that the BBYF has ever fielded from top to bottom and it is exciting to see so many new players who want to represent their country in international competition. The success of last year’s teams led to seven all-star selections and several individual awards at Keystone Camp. Coach Jason Lowe was named the Coach of the Year for his success with the 18-under team and Kumari Tannock was named the BBYF Player of the year following his successful campaign. We believe that we will see continued success this year. We also have a new coach to announce with Erica Woods, one of our nation’s best ever to play and former university scholarship player from Marshall University taking over the ladies programme. This summer marks the end of the year for the youth national teams and selections will be made this September for the 2015-16 youth national teams.”
The games at Keystone State Camps will be live streamed at PASPORTSLIVE.com each day from 6pm to 10pm Eastern Time.
