The Team Hurricane Basketball Academy ended its successful 2014-2015 season with its player’s triumphant return from the Global Squad’s Second Annual International Showcase organized by the Alexander Basketball Academy at the renowned preparatory academy, The Hill School, in Pottstown, PA.
Mykal Glasgow, Zachary Johnson, Christian Liyanage, Yontz Sutton, Raushon Tankard and Sean Tucker got a firsthand look at the College Basketball recruiting scene that takes place during the all-important July Evaluation Period. This group of players joined up with Team Hurricane student-athletes, Bryce Gonsalves, Jorel Smith, and Darae Smith who are already attending the month long academy designed to provide international student-athletes with an opportunity to get recruited by U.S. colleges and universities.
Team Hurricane Founder/Head Coach Doug Reed is extremely pleased about the opportunity afforded Team Hurricane student-athletes. “There were over 40 coaches in attendance, including those from Division 1 institutions like the University of Louisville, Villanova, Temple, Canisus, San Diego, Bucknell and Colgate, just to name a few. I was proud of the way our boys competed and carried themselves in such a competitive setting, pulling out 2 wins in 5 games played over the course of 3 days.”
Johnson of Mount Saint Agnes said, “It was great and humbling experience that we were given a chance to play in front of big name coaches from all around the United States.”
Glasgow of Berkeley Institute says, “To be invited to showcase our skills and abilities and to play the sport we love in front of college coaches in hopes to get recruited at this event is an experience I won't forget.”
Coach Reed added, “The experience they gained from this event is invaluable. Our players got a firsthand look at the size, speed and talent level of players throughout the world who share the same dreams and aspirations as they do. And our players saw the serious business of recruiting as coaches come into the gym donning their school logos and with notebooks in hand in order to scout and take notes on players. Such an experience can only help motivate players to continue to improve.”
Team Hurricane’s return from the Global Squad’s Second Annual International Showcase brings to a close a successful 2014-2015 campaign for the Bermuda based charity.
Coach Reed went on to say, “These many distinctive programs for our players demonstrate Team Hurricane Basketball Academy's strength to provide a platform in which student-athletes can train, develop and reach their academic and athletic potential. Team Hurricane has proven its ability to provide its players with high-level opportunities to learn the game, which can only help basketball grow in Bermuda.
“It’s vital that the community is aware that we will continue to model this program as a grassroots effort that seeks to build young people of integrity. It's important to know that Team Hurricane Basketball Academy provides such training and unique programming to its student-athletes and their families at no charge. Team Hurricane Basketball Academy continues to provide high-quality programs at no charge to the community.
