IslandStats.com
A potent UTEP offense proved to be too much for Erica Woods and her Marshall University Women’s Basketball teammates as they dropped their sixth-consecutive game with a 77-50 loss at Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

Marshall Coach Matt Daniel started his fourth different lineup of their last five games, with Woods starting on the bench. Woods played a total of 21 minutes going 1 – 4 from the Field which was a 3 Pointer for her 3 Points on the night, she also grabbed 2 Rebounds to go along with 1 Assist and 2 Steals.

UTEP began the game with five unanswered points in the first two minutes, but a quick Johnson three and Chukwuka Ezeigbo put-back tied it up. Two free throws from both teams created another tie at seven, from that point, UTEP kicked off a 12-to-3 run, spanning from 16:49 to 11:45, to go up, 19-10.

By the 12:04 mark in the first half, 11 of Marshall’s 12 active players had checked into the game. UTEP found its largest lead of the first half of 15 at 32-17 with 6:47 remaining. UTEP’s double-digit margin stood until 2:48 when Marshall shortened the gap to 37-29 after a 12-to-5 run. UTEP put up four unanswered points to send the teams into halftime at 41-29.

Aja Sorrells opened up second-half scoring by contributing Marshall’s first three points on a layup and free throw. However, UTEP’s high-octane offense kicked into another gear as it rattled off eight unanswered points from 14:51 to 12:36, to go up by 21 points at 55-34. For the remainder of the game, UTEP shot 9-of-17 for 53 percent. Marshall went cold, making only five field goals in the last twelve minutes, going 5-of-18 for 28 percent.

With 4:15 remaining, Marshall found itself in its largest deficit of the season, down 35, at 77-42. An eight-point spark by Dickens propelled her into double-digit scoring at 16, and eventually ended the game at 77-50 in UTEP’s favor.

Until Dickens’ game-ending spurt, Marshall player had reached double digits in the score column. She finished with 16 points, 11 coming in the second half. Eight of Marshall’s 12-player active roster found the scoreboard with all 12 earning playing time. Senior Orlandria Williams came off the bench to contribute a season-high seven points, and Sorrells matched her season-high of eight. Ezeigbo pulled down 10 rebounds, her fourth double-digit mark of the season.
