Bermudian forward T'syi Showers kept his composure to dispatch the decisive sudden-death penalty as Thomas College captured the North Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Championship following a dramatic 6-5 shootout win over rivals Husson University.
Showers, alongside compatriots Tre Burgess and Cody Robinson, played an integral role in a pulse-pounding final that finished locked at 1-1 after 110 minutes of regulation and extra time.
In a physical and intensely contested affair between two conference powerhouses, both sides traded chances early and saw goals chalked off by the match officials before second-seeded Husson broke the deadlock in the 34th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the interval.
The Terriers responded with purpose after the restart, and their persistence was rewarded in the 63rd minute. David Ivarsson produced a moment of individual brilliance, weaving through the Eagles' backline before unleashing a venomous strike into the top left corner to restore parity.
With both defences holding firm through the remainder of regulation and two testing periods of overtime, the championship came down to a high-stakes penalty shootout.
After ten nerve-shredding spot-kicks left the shootout deadlocked at 5-5, Showers shouldered the responsibility for Thomas College. The Bermudian stepped up and calmly slotted the ball home to trigger wild celebrations, sealing the NAC trophy and punching the Terriers' ticket to the NCAA Division III national tournament.
