Selley & Bridges Win Super Stock World Championship

IslandStats.com
It was high drama, blistering speeds, and pure, unfiltered elation on the waters of the Florida Keys as Bermuda’s GL Construction crew surged to a sensational victory in the APBA Super Cat/Super Stock ranks, putting themselves in prime position to claim the UIM World Championship.

Broadcasting live from the waterside, commentators caught up with the exhausted yet ecstatic Bermudian duo over the team radio immediately after crossing the line: driver David Selley and throttleman Steven Bridges in the gleaming S-1.

Commentary Booth: "We’ve got them on the radio! What’s up, boys? Massive congratulations!"

David Selley: "Yes, sir! Can’t believe it, man! A dream come true!"

Commentary Booth: "I’ll tell you, we were worried when that red flag came out. You had so much momentum, but then you picked it right back up where you started!"

Steven Bridges: "Yeah, we were worried too, mate. Normally it doesn’t work out that way. We were a little concerned about that inside line because of the angle to the first turn, but it worked out for us. Like he said, man, it’s been coming for a long, long time."

Commentary Booth: "Steven Bridges on the throttles, David Selley the wheelman... It appears—unofficially, pending tech inspection—we have you winning the UIM World Championship series!"

David Selley: "No way! No way! That’s great, bud. We’ve never even led a lap down here, man!"

The turnaround was nothing short of extraordinary. The Bermudian outfit entered Friday’s contest trailing by over 750 points in the overall UIM standings. By the time the spray settled, they had leapfrogged the field to finish on top with 3,248 points, edging out Ray Marine (3,087) and Team Celsius (2,136).

As celebrations erupted, co-commentator Ryan chimed in: "Two of my favourite Bermudians! Great job, guys. Held off all the competition just like you have all season long.

"Well, you’ve got a Key West World Championship chequered flag coming right to you!" laughed the booth.

Amid the euphoria, the Bermuda pair realised they were slightly adrift in the post-race traffic.

While celebrations will spill into Duval Street tonight for the official presentations, the job is not completely finished. With one final deciding battle awaiting on Sunday, Bermuda's dynamic duo have already delivered a masterclass on the water, proving that patience, courage on the inside turn, and steadfast teamwork can turn the tide on the world stage.

Bermuda’s other boat S-12 Nuff Said, crewed by driver Luis Martins and throttleman Nick Imprescia also had a top ten finish.

Bermuda’s presence in the fiercely contested Super Stock fleet at the Key West World Championship proved to be far from a one-boat affair.

Alongside the headline-grabbing heroics at the sharp end of the grid, Bermuda’s second entry, S-12 Nuff Said, delivered a gritty, composed performance to lock in a hard-fought top-ten finish amidst testing conditions.

Piloted by driver Luis Martins and throttleman Nick Imprescia, the crew navigated through choppy waters and aggressive midfield traffic to ensure both Bermudian hulls left their mark on the international stage.

Facing stiff competition from seasoned American and international outfits, Martins demonstrated sharp tactical awareness at the helm, carving through tight turns while Imprescia managed the throttles to maintain crucial pace through the rolling swell.

The result marks a significant milestone for the Nuff Said team, consolidating Bermuda’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in offshore powerboat racing.

With vital championship points banked and the boat holding strong, Martins and Imprescia have firmly laid the groundwork as attention turns toward the final rounds of the championship weekend.
