Luton Town striker Nahki Wells has made the decision to step aside from international duty with Bermuda 🇧🇲 for the upcoming international window, choosing instead to prioritise his fitness and focus on the Hatters' push for League One promotion.
The 36-year-old forward travelled overseas last month to represent his country, earning his 31st and 32nd international caps in heavy Concacaf Nations League defeats against Saint Lucia and Barbados.
With John Barry Nusum's side preparing for reverse fixtures against Guadeloupe and Saint Lucia next week, the national team had hoped to call upon their talisman to spearhead the attack once again. However, Wells will not be joining up with the squad.
The former Bradford City and Bristol City marksman has shouldered a substantial workload at Kenilworth Road this campaign. Having been forced off with a knock during the first half against Doncaster Rovers late last month, Wells began on the bench for Luton’s 2-0 win over Peterborough United before returning to play 85 minutes in Tuesday's hard-fought 1-1 draw against former club Huddersfield Town.
Wells has been instrumental in Luton's campaign, scoring eight goals in 16 appearances and logging 870 minutes on the pitch. With the Hatters sitting fourth in League One and firmly in the hunt to regain their place in the Championship, keeping the veteran fit and fresh remains central to their promotion ambitions.
