Trott Sensational Stoppage-Time Save in Six-Goal Thriller

IslandStats.com
Bermudian goalkeeper Nathan Trott produced a sensational stoppage-time save to preserve Cardiff City's unbeaten home record as the Bluebirds were held to a breathless 3-3 draw by West Ham United.

A classic tale of two halves at Cardiff City Stadium saw Jack Moylan net a sublime first-half hat-trick to give the hosts complete command, only for Scott Parker’s side to stage a relentless three-goal second-half fightback.

The visitors almost struck first when Valentín Castellanos poked towards goal from close range, but Trott scrambled across brilliantly to deny the forward.

Cardiff capitalized immediately on the counter. West Ham backed off on the edge of the area and Moylan needed no second invitation, rifling a venomous strike into the top corner after 11 minutes.

Moylan was irresistible. Just after Will Fish headed over, the Irish forward timed his run behind the Hammers' backline to perfection, drawing a foul inside the box to win a penalty. He dusted himself down and calmly sent Mads Hermansen the wrong way for his eighth league goal of the campaign.

The hat-trick arrived minutes before the interval. Moylan met an inswinging corner with a glancing header that flew into the net to make it 3-0, capping a dream opening 45 minutes for the Bluebirds.

Parker rang the changes at half-time, introducing a triple substitution that completely altered the momentum.

West Ham pulled one back in the 58th minute when Jarrod Bowen threaded a clever pass into the box for Divine Mukasa to chip in off the post.

The Hammers struck again in nearly identical fashion shortly after, with Bowen turning provider once more to loft a pass over the defence for Arne Engels to slot coolly past Trott.

Bowen then forced a fine reflex stop from Trott, but the pressure finally told with 10 minutes remaining. Bowen whipped in another pinpoint delivery and Max Kilman rose highest to bundle home the equaliser.

West Ham pushed relentlessly for a late winner during six minutes of stoppage time and looked certain to take all three points when Tomáš Souček steered a header toward the bottom corner.

However, former West Ham goalkeeper Trott saved his finest moment for the dying seconds against his old club, springing across to tip the ball around the post with his fingertips to ensure Cardiff took a deserved share of the spoils.
