The Bermuda Cricket Board has completed an intensive Under-19 talent identification camp as preparations begin for hosting the 2027 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier.
Sixteen promising young cricketers took part in the five-day high-performance programme, designed to evaluate emerging talent, establish fitness benchmarks, and introduce players to the demands of international cricket.
The camp forms the opening phase of the BCB’s long-term player pathway, with Bermuda scheduled to stage the regional qualifying tournament from 20 to 30 August 2027.
Under-19 head coach Ryan Steede led the sessions under the guidance of international cricket consultant Andre Coley, putting the squad through technical assessments, strength and conditioning testing, and tactical workshops.
"The camp was an overwhelming success," said Steede. "The players demonstrated excellent attitudes, a willingness to learn, and a genuine desire to improve.
"We were encouraged by the depth of talent on display and the commitment shown by both players and parents. This camp has provided a strong foundation as we build towards hosting the Americas Qualifier in August 2027."
The five-day camp opened with a joint orientation for players and parents detailing professional standards, nutrition, and mental resilience required at the senior level.
Subsequent indoor net sessions focused on decision-making and execution against seam and spin, while fielding and wicketkeeping drills highlighted several players displaying high athletic potential.
Steede’s coaching staff—comprising assistants Kyle Hodsoll and Roderick Masters alongside team manager Ryan Belboda—will use performance data from the camp to draft individual player development plans.
The BCB plans to stage further training camps, educational seminars, and competitive match opportunities throughout 2027 as the island looks to assemble a squad capable of contending for World Cup qualification on home turf.
