Devonshire Derby thriller & Paget stun Champions Town

IslandStats.com
Diego Richardson struck deep into stoppage time to seal an extraordinary 4-3 comeback victory for Devonshire Colts over rivals Devonshire Cougars on a breathless weekend of Bermudian domestic football.

A seven-goal spectacle at Police Field proved the showcase fixture of week five in the Premier Division, while defending champions Dandy Town Hornets suffered a surprise defeat against Paget Lions and PHC Zebras held off Young Men's Social Club in a five-goal battle.

PREMIER DIVISION

Devonshire Colts 4 Devonshire Cougars 3

A frantic Devonshire Derby produced non-stop drama at Police Field as Colts overturned a second-half deficit to snatch all three points at the death.

Colts looked in full control early on after Senoj Mitchell opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before Elisha Darrell doubled the advantage seven minutes after the restart.

However, Cougars staged a ferocious fightback. Christian Albuoy halved the deficit before Drewonde Bascome stroked home a penalty to level the scores at 2-2. Domico Coddington then completed the turnaround to put Cougars 3-2 in front and seemingly on course for victory.

Colts refused to yield. Shane Robinson restored parity in the 90th minute before Richardson delivered the decisive blow in stoppage time, sending the Colts supporters into raptures.

St. George’s Colts 1 X-Road’s 1

At Wellington Oval, X-Roads Warriors were left still searching for their first league victory of the season following a 1-1 stalemate with St George’s Colts.

Sajan Harvey handed the visitors a 24th-minute lead, which they protected until midway through the second half. St George's were awarded a lifeline in the 71st minute when Mitchell Tucker was brought down inside the box, allowing David Signor to step up and dispatch the resulting penalty.

Dandy Town Hornets 1 Paget Lions 2

At PHC Stadium, Paget Lions produced the shock of the round by handing reigning champions Dandy Town Hornets their first league defeat of the campaign.

After a disciplined, goalless opening 45 minutes, Tomiko Goater broke the deadlock for Dandy Town two minutes into the second half.

Paget mounted a swift response, equalising in the 54th minute through Rakeem DeShields before completing the upset just three minutes later when veteran striker Shakir Smith calmly converted from the penalty spot.

PHC Zebras 3 Young Men Social Club 2

PHC Stadium also played host to a tense affair as PHC Zebras edged Young Men's Social Club by the odd goal in five.

The Zebras stormed out of the traps in the first half, taking a 2-0 cushion into the interval courtesy of strikes from Daniel Cook in the 16th minute and Killian Elkinson in the 36th.

Social Club responded immediately upon the resumption, with Bermuda international Zeiko Lewis finding the net in the 46th minute. Eusebio King-Mills restored PHC’s two-goal cushion in the 54th minute, and despite Z’Chai Jennings-Barnett pulling another back for Social Club on 62 minutes, the Zebras held firm.

FIRST DIVISION

Hamilton Parish 1 Wolves 3

In week four of the First Division, Wolves produced a clinical away display at Wellington Oval to claim a 3-1 victory over Hamilton Parish.

Khari Sharieff Hayward set the tone for the visitors with an opening goal in the 28th minute. Jared Douglas then took over after the interval, doubling the lead on 57 minutes before adding his second of the afternoon in the 75th minute. Kion Knights grabbed a 77th-minute consolation for Hamilton Parish, but Wolves comfortably navigated the closing stages to take the points.
