Bermuda Contingent Ready for Historic Youth Olympic Games

IslandStats.com
Four of Bermuda’s brightest young sporting prospects are set to take to the global stage after being confirmed in the island's contingent for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

The Games mark a watershed moment in sporting history, with Dakar staging the first Olympic competition ever to be held on the African continent.

Bermuda will be represented across three sports in the Senegalese capital, fielding a four-strong squad featuring track and field, swimming, and triathlon.

In the athletics stadium, Tatiana Sousa spearheads the island's field hopes as she prepares to contest the javelin.

The swimming events will feature a dual Bermudian assault, with Maggie Mewett and Noah Maranzana lining up in the pool against the finest emerging junior swimmers from across the globe.

On the road, Gianluca Bortoli will test his endurance in the triathlon, tackling the gruelling swim, bike, and run legs against an elite international field.

Former international swimmer and Bermuda Chef de Mission Ashley Yearwood highlighted the cultural and competitive significance of the multi-sport gathering.

"This is a truly historic edition of the Youth Olympic Games as the first Olympic sporting event to be held on African soil," said Yearwood.

"It provides a wonderful opportunity for our athletes to compete, learn, build lifelong friendships, and experience the rich culture and hospitality of Senegal."
