Bermuda’s Under-15s experienced the full spectrum of tournament football in Baku, bouncing back from a valiant 10-man defeat against Georgia with a scintillating 5-1 thrashing of São Tomé and Príncipe.
In a whirlwind sequence of fixtures at the Hövsan Competition Complex, the young Gombey Warriors demonstrated both grit and attacking swagger, headlined by a sensational Legend Robinson hat-trick and a brace from Darien Lambert.
Bermuda's day began with testing adversity against a well-drilled Georgia side, where fine margins and refereeing decisions swung the balance.
The contest pivoted drastically in the 20th minute when Bermuda were reduced to 10 men following a straight red card. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the young side displayed immense discipline and structural resilience, frustrating their European opponents for large spells.
However, the sustained pressure eventually told. In the 39th minute, Georgia unlocked the Bermudian backline to slot home the decisive breakthrough and secure all three points, leaving Bermuda to rue what might have been with a full complement on the pitch.
Any lingering frustration from the morning’s defeat was swiftly extinguished as Bermuda unleashed a clinical attacking display against São Tomé and Príncipe.
Darien Lambert set the tone inside six minutes, latching onto a through ball to fire Bermuda into an early lead. While São Tomé struck back four minutes later through Vinicios Santo, parity proved fleeting as Bermuda's forwards took complete control of the contest.
Legend Robinson restored the advantage from the penalty spot in the 17th minute, calmly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Five minutes later, Lambert grabbed his second of the match with an instinctive finish to make it 3-1.
Robinson then took centre stage, striking again in the 24th minute to give Bermuda a commanding cushion before completing a memorable hat-trick in the 36th minute with a sharp strike into the bottom corner.
