Bermuda Cricket Board pays tribute to Gary Fray

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) has led glowing tributes to long-serving administrator Gary Fray, hailing him as a "true titan" whose decades of selfless service transformed the landscape of the island's national sport.

In an emotional statement issued on behalf of the BCB President and Executive Board, the governing body reflected on Fray’s enduring legacy across grassroots development, financial governance, and national administration.

Widely regarded as a cornerstone of modern Bermudian cricket, Fray was instrumental during the early 1990s in orchestrating the unification of the island’s disparate governing bodies into a single, cohesive entity—a watershed moment that modernised the sport's domestic and international pathways.

Throughout his tenure on the BCB Executive Committee, Fray filled nearly every senior executive brief, serving with distinction as Treasurer, Second Vice-President, and First Vice-President.

Armed with more than 50 years of professional accounting experience, Fray brought vital fiscal prudence, rigour, and transparency to the board's accounts during pivotal periods of transition.

He also presided over the BCB Disciplinary Committee as Chairman, earning the respect of players, officials, and member clubs for his measured, dignified, and impartial approach to safeguarding the spirit of the game. His tireless dedication garnered global acclaim when he was presented with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Lifetime Service Award.

Beyond his national commitments, Fray's name became synonymous with Warwick Workmen’s Club, an institution he served for more than half a century.

Having walked through the doors as a 16-year-old sportsman before joining the committee at just 20, Fray went on to occupy virtually every leadership post—including Secretary, Treasurer, and ultimately President.

Under his guidance, the club solidified its standing as an indispensable cultural, athletic, and social anchor for the Warwick parish community.

"Gary represented the very best of Bermudian sportsmanship," the BCB said in its tribute. "He was a leader who never sought the spotlight for himself, but instead poured his energy into building structured, fair, and welcoming environments where generations of young athletes could thrive.

"To Gary, we extend our deepest gratitude for your decades of selfless labour, your firm guidance, and your enduring legacy in Bermudian cricket. The foundation you built will continue to support our sport for generations to come."
