Bermuda captain Nahki Wells was on target to guide Luton Town to a 2-1 victory over Barnsley in League One, headlining a busy Tuesday evening of action for Bermudians across the English pyramid.
On an evening where Luton celebrated the town and club’s Black culture and heritage, the Hatters laid the groundwork for their triumph with a clinical first-half display at Kenilworth Road.
Mads Andersen opened the scoring inside two minutes against his former club, powering home a downward header from Jamie Donley's free-kick. Luton doubled their advantage four minutes before the interval through Wells. Liam Walsh whipped an inswinging free-kick towards the far post, where George Johnston nodded the ball back across the face of goal for Wells to apply the finishing touch from close range.
The header was the Bermudian striker's seventh goal of the campaign and proved decisive, with Makenzie Kirk’s second-half reply for the Tykes not enough to deny Luton all three points.
Away from Bedfordshire, it proved to be a challenging evening for Bermuda's overseas contingent in the non-league tiers.
In the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands, Milan Butterfield and Halesowen Town were dealt a heavy 5-1 defeat on the road against Racing Club Warwick at Townsend Meadow.
In the Southern League Premier Central, Willie Clemons and Leiston endured a tough night away from home, suffering a comprehensive 4-0 loss to Kettering Town.
In the United Counties League Division One, Roger Lee and West Bridgford also finished on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline away to Radford at Selston.
In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Daizhari Tucker took charge from the dugout as a 10-man Worcester Raiders side produced a spirited, battling defensive display, only to be edged out 1-0 by Swindon Supermarine.
