Bermuda’s Lauren Cardwell and her University of Toronto Varsity Blues teammates produced an emphatic 4-0 shutout victory over the Queen's Gaels at Back Campus Fields.
The Varsity Blues stamped their authority on the contest from the opening whistle, taking just three minutes to unlock the Gaels' backline.
Fourth-year forward Ava Airnes set the tone early, with the Aberdeen-born attacker finding the back of the net to register a goal in her second consecutive outing.
Toronto maintained the pressure and doubled their advantage in the 18th minute. Capitalising on a well-worked penalty corner routine, first-year midfielder Imke Arndt slotted home to open her Ontario University Athletics account in style.
The hosts refused to relent after the break, keeping their foot firmly on the throttle. Defender Kirsten D'Silva put the result beyond doubt with a thumping strike, unleashing a venomous drive from the top of the shooting circle to record her first career goal in Varsity Blues colours.
First-year midfielder Ellie Mullins capped off a polished team display on the stroke of full time, driving aggressively into the circle in the 60th minute before firing home Toronto's fourth.
At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeping duo Mary Yang and Megan Kirkpatrick shared duties between the posts, combining with Cardwell and a suffocating Toronto defence to snuff out any Gaels fightback and preserve a well-deserved clean sheet.
