Hawley Produces Strong Run to take 17th at Triathlon Beijing

IslandStats.com
Bermudian Olympian Erica Hawley produced an impressive late running surge to secure a 17th-place finish in the Elite Women’s race at the World Triathlon Cup in Beijing.

Hawley crossed the line in two hours, four minutes and one second, finishing three minutes and 28 seconds adrift of home favourite Xinyu Lin, who delighted the local crowds by taking victory for China.

Hawley faced early work to do following the opening discipline, emerging from the water in 21st position after clocking 19 minutes and 38 seconds for the swim.

The 28-year-old responded emphatically once out on the road. Navigating the technical cycling circuit, Hawley recorded the 15th-quickest bike split of 1:05:38, keeping herself firmly in contention within the main chase group heading into second transition.

Saving her best form for the final discipline, Hawley found an extra gear across the 10km run.

She carved her way through the field with a clinical 36:17 split—the ninth-fastest run time of the entire elite field—to climb several places down the stretch and lock down a hard-earned top-20 finish on the world stage.
