Britain's Christian Hamilton led the charge into the Bermuda Gold Cup quarter-finals as a dramatic four-way tie decided the opening round-robin stage in Hamilton Harbour.
Hamilton, at the helm of Khumbu Racing, claimed eight victories from his 11 races to finish level alongside France's Aurélien Pierroz (Match Again), Sweden's Oskar Engström (Team Libros), and Denmark's Jeppe Borch (Borch Matchrace).
All four crews have advanced directly to the third stage knock-out quarter-finals, having secured the top four berths in one of match racing’s most demanding regattas.
The biggest shock of the round robin belonged to top seed Chris Pool. The American skipper, who leads the 2026 World Match Racing Tour standings with Riptide Racing, missed out on direct qualification by a single point.
Pool concluded the opening phase in fifth place with seven wins, forcing him into the second-stage repechage alongside the remaining seven crews placed fifth to 12th.
The repechage got under way immediately in shifting harbour breezes, offering a final lifeline to the eight chasing teams. Only the top four finishers from this round will earn the right to rejoin the quarter-finalists.
Sweden's Anna Östling made the ideal start, securing back-to-back wins in her opening two matches to take an early lead on the repechage leaderboard.
With six spots remaining up for grabs across the repechage grid, Pool and his chasing rivals face an uphill scrap to avoid an early flight home.
Once the repechage concludes, the four survivors will join Hamilton, Pierroz, Engström, and Borch in the head-to-head quarter-finals. The winners of those matches will progress to the semi-finals before two teams square off to lift the King Edward VII Gold Cup.
