Saltus Grammar retained their Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) Primary School Six-a-Side 'A' Division crown in emphatic style, sweeping past St George’s Preparatory 4-1 in a pulsating final.
A clinical attacking display settled a competitive showpiece, with Peter McGeever leading the line brilliantly with a clinical double. Maddox Seymour-Durham and Moss Shreeve also found the net for the champions, rendering Aalun Crockwell's strike for the East Enders a mere consolation.
The silverware capped a testing afternoon of knockout tournament football, during which the defending champions were repeatedly forced to showcase both their resolve and their attacking depth.
Saltus’ passage to the final was anything but straightforward. Facing off against rivals Warwick Academy in the semi-finals, the Knights were pushed to the wire in an end-to-end clash that could easily have swung either way.
Seymour-Durham was the decisive factor, bagging a brace to guide Saltus to a slender 2-1 win, while Emile Terceira was on the scoresheet for Warwick Academy.
The second semi-final proved equally dramatic. St George’s Prep held their nerve from the penalty spot to edge Mount Saint Agnes (MSA) Academy 5-3 in a shootout following a tense 1-1 stalemate in regulation time.
The quarter-final stage had earlier set a thrilling tone for the day:
MSA 2-1 Francis Patton: Luca Arruda proved the hero for Mount Saint Agnes. After Chai Walker gave a hardworking Francis Patton side the lead, Arruda struck to level before dramatically snatching victory with the final kick of the match.
Saltus 2-1 Harrington Sound: Saltus had to grind through a demanding quarter-final, edging Harrington Sound 2-1 courtesy of strikes from Arlo Shreeve and Seymour-Durham. Noah Ascento replied for Harrington Sound.
Warwick Academy 3-0 Victor Scott: Warwick made light work of their quarter-final tie, with Terceira, Jaxon Burchall, and Dace Dowling each getting on the scoresheet in a commanding display.
St George’s Prep 2-0 Somersfield Academy: Goals from Sway Outerbridge and Crockwell earned St George's a comfortable victory over Somersfield Academy to book their place in the final four.
Yet when the decisive honours were on the line, it was Saltus who found another gear, retaining their title and cementing their status at the pinnacle of primary school football.
