England’s WMF Women’s World Cup campaign suffered another setback on Day Two as a spirited second-half push failed to prevent a narrow 2-1 defeat by Lebanon in Mali Lošinj.
The result marks back-to-back group-stage defeats for England, leaving Bermudian international Jasmine Spence and her side facing an uphill battle in Croatia.
England were pushed onto the back foot early on by a clinical, energetic Lebanon outfit, who capitalised on their chances on the small-sided pitch to establish a two-goal cushion.
Spence and her teammates rallied after the break, stepping up their tempo and pulling a goal back to set up a tense finale. However, despite intense late pressure, England were unable to carve out a decisive equaliser before the final whistle.
