Bermudian midfielder La Zai Outerbridge and his 12th-ranked Hobart College soccer side were forced to share the spoils after battling to a 1-1 draw against Ithaca College in a hard-fought Liberty League clash on Cozzens Field.
Outerbridge, a senior for the Statesmen, nearly broke the game open early in the second half. In the 50th minute, he dispossessed a defender in dangerous territory and looked destined to score, only to see his goalbound effort denied by a sharp reaction save from Ithaca goalkeeper Brayden Milbrandt.
The visitors eventually capitalised to break the deadlock in the 68th minute when Edin Estrada struck directly from a corner to give the Bombers the lead.
However, Hobart responded late on through sophomore Gabe Smith, who hauled the hosts level in the 82nd minute with a precise left-footed finish to rescue a crucial conference point.
Both goalkeepers played pivotal roles in keeping the scores level across the full 90 minutes. Hobart junior Jake Hans produced six saves — including a vital diving stop in the final seconds of regulation — while Milbrandt registered four stops at the other end for Ithaca.
The result moves the Statesmen to 9-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Liberty League play.
