Bermudian freshman Oliver Betschart marked his NCAA Division I debut in style, securing a 12th-place finish for Colorado State University at the Les Fowler Colorado Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club in Denver.
Competing in a competitive 45-player field on the testing 7,340-yard layout, the 18-year-old closed the 54-hole tournament with rounds of 73, 73, and 76 to finish at six over par in his first collegiate outing under Rams head coach Jack Kennedy.
Betschart demonstrated immediate composure against senior collegiate opposition, opening the tournament with back-to-back rounds of two-over-par 73.
While the final round presented early challenges, the young Bermudian produced the defining stretch of the afternoon. Shaking off a turbulent start to his concluding 18 holes, Betschart tore through his final five holes with four birdies and a par, mounting a sensational late charge to climb the leaderboard.
The top-15 showing marks a seamless transition to the American collegiate circuit for Betschart, who arrived in Fort Collins following a decorated junior and amateur career that featured international honours and appearances in prestigious events, including the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
His resilient finish in Colorado provides a strong foundation as the Rams continue their autumn campaign, confirming the teenage prospect's ability to compete at the sharp end of collegiate golf.
