Substitute Pedro Gulli struck 12 minutes from time following sharp interplay involving Bermudian midfielder Sachiel Ming as Syracuse fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against tenth-ranked Pittsburgh at SU Soccer Stadium.
The Orange were forced to chase the game early after Pitt made a flying start, breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute to put the hosts on the back foot.
Syracuse responded with persistent attacking pressure, and the complexion of the contest shifted dramatically four minutes before the interval. Pittsburgh were reduced to 10 men in the 41st minute when Logan Oliver received a second yellow card, handing the hosts a crucial numerical advantage.
From that moment on, Syracuse dominated proceedings. They outshot the visitors 21 to eight and held a six to three edge in corner kicks, with all six corners won during a relentless second-half siege.
The decisive moment arrived after Syracuse head coach turned to his bench, introducing Gulli in the 71st minute. Just seven minutes later, the Brazilian forward delivered.
Ming combined neatly with Chimere Omeze to slice open the Panthers' back line, teeing up Gulli to slot home his fourth goal of the campaign and restore parity.
Pittsburgh mounted a spirited late counter-attack despite their player deficit, but Syracuse goalkeeper Juan Martinez-Bastidas produced three vital saves in the final 10 minutes—finishing with four stops on the night—to secure a well-earned point against top-10 opposition.
