First-year forward Vanessa Marques struck her maiden Ontario University Athletics goal to earn Lauren Cardwell and the University of Toronto Varsity Blues a 1-1 draw against the Guelph Gryphons at Back Campus Fields.
The Blues were forced onto the back foot early in the contest when Guelph broke the deadlock after just six minutes. Clara Gerardin found an opening in the Toronto defence, slotting home to give the visiting Gryphons an immediate advantage.
Trailing from the early setback, Toronto responded with the tenacity that has defined their campaign, pressing high and pinning Guelph back in search of a leveller.
Their sustained pressure told two minutes before the half-time interval. Following a well-worked penalty corner in the 28th minute, Marques reacted quickest in the circle, pouncing on the loose ball to rifle home her first collegiate goal and restore parity.
The second half developed into an intense, tactical battle, but both defences stood firm.
Goalkeepers Mary Yang for Toronto and Aislinn Mierau for Guelph produced sharp stops under pressure, ensuring neither side could fashion a decisive winner before the final horn sounded.
