Bermudian duo Lizzie Davidson and Christina Stephens-Weser helped Dalhousie Tigers secure a thrilling 2-1 shootout victory over Saint Mary's Huskies following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at STFX Stadium.
A tense, closely contested Atlantic battle sprang to life during the second period. Dalhousie drew first blood at 5:24 when Madison Hollohan found space to produce an unassisted strike and break the deadlock.
Saint Mary's responded with relentless pressure and finally made their advantage count late in the frame. Capitalising on a power-play opportunity, Marisa McClocklin scored unassisted with just six seconds remaining before the interval at 14:54 to level the contest at 1-1.
With neither side able to breach the opposition defence in a cagey second half, the encounter was decided by a dramatic penalty shootout.
Stephens-Weser and the Dalhousie defence held firm under pressure, while Madison Wardle and Emily Gardiner both converted their shootout attempts with clinical precision. Saint Mary's replied through Renee Olsen's successful effort, but it was not enough to deny the Tigers a hard-fought derby triumph.
