Bermuda have been crowned North American Cup champions after defending a revised target to seal a dramatic victory over hosts Cayman Islands in a rain-curtailed final at the Jimmy Powell Cricket Oval.

On an afternoon heavily disrupted by the elements, the tourists held their nerve under pressure with the ball to dismiss the home side and lift the silverware on foreign soil.

The day began in promising fashion for the Cayman Islands, who won the toss and elected to field in the hope of exploiting early bowler-friendly conditions. However, the weather soon took centre stage as a sharp downpour immediately following the toss forced the groundstaff into action and trimmed the contest to 15 overs per side.

When play eventually got underway, Bermuda found the going tough against a disciplined local bowling attack. Cayman Islands seamer Romario Edwards produced an incisive spell, tearing through the middle order to finish with outstanding figures of 3-6 from his two overs.

Despite Edwards' burst and regular wickets falling at the other end, Isaiah O'Brien proved to be the bedrock of the Bermuda innings. O'Brien struck an invaluable, counter-attacking 43 to guide his side to 101-9 from their 15 overs, setting up a competitive, adjusted total.

Cayman Islands' pursuit never truly found its rhythm against relentless Bermuda pressure with the ball. Only Vaickesh Dhaniram managed to offer sustained resistance, grafting his way to a side-best 14, as wickets tumbled at regular intervals under the mounting required rate.

Kwasi James led the Bermuda bowling effort with real authority, ripping through the host batting line-up to finish with figures of 3-17 from his three-over spell.

The hosts were ultimately bundled out for 59, ensuring Bermuda sealed a famous victory and the championship trophy following a breathless, weather-affected duel in George Town.
