High-octane racing returned to the West End as the Bermuda Power Boat Association staged the National Race and the prestigious Rickai 'Pugi' Raynor Memorial at Cross Island.
A competitive fleet produced blistering action across two heats, with Ricky Sousa III and Nick Cabral powering to the overall honours in Race One before Chad Sutherland—partnered by Sergio Raynor—stole the spotlight to capture overall victory in Race Two.
The opening heat saw Sousa and Cabral set the benchmark in boat B20, dominating the B Class and sweeping the overall chequered flag in clinical fashion.
They finished ahead of the fast-charging A-Class winners Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess in A111, who took a deserved second overall, while Chad Sutherland and Lee Wilson steered C87 home in third place overall after taking the C-Class honours.
DeSilva and Burgess were untroubled in the A Class, holding off Chris Marshall and Santiago Roe in A3, with Marcus Pimental and Amber Furtado rounding out the podium places in A5.
In the fiercely contested B Class, Sousa and Cabral were pursued across the line by Tai Bean and Quince Dowling in B441, with Jahcai Morris and Jeneko Place (B921) taking third and Damon Morris alongside Rick Raynor (B48) finishing fourth.
Sutherland and Wilson fended off Phillip Pavia and Cameron White (C588) to win the C Class, while Matthew Smith and Brendan Renaud completed an uncontested run in D94 to claim top honours in D Class.
The second heat delivered high drama, particularly in the B Class, where opening-race winners Sousa and Cabral were forced to retire with a DNF, and Damon Morris' B48 failed to take the start.
That opened the door for Sutherland, who teamed up with Sergio Raynor in C87. The pair seized the initiative with an aggressive, clean run through the swell to take both the C-Class crown and the overall Race Two victory.
Tai Bean and Quince Dowling capitalised on the B-Class attrition to steer B441 to the class win and secure a brilliant second place overall, finishing ahead of third-placed Jahcai Morris and Jeneko Place (B921).
Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess maintained their immaculate form in A111, doubling up on their A-Class victories to claim third place overall. Marshall and Roe again finished runners-up in A3, followed by Pimental and Furtado in A5.
Matthew Smith and Brendan Renaud capped a flawless afternoon in D94, repeating their victory in the D Class to conclude an exhilarating programme of racing at Cross Island.
