Eckerd College sit in overall third place following the opening day of racing at the SAISA Open Top 9 regatta, hosted by the College of Charleston.
Strong showings across the fleet on Saturday left the Tritons firmly in the hunt on 87 points, just six points adrift of second-placed South Florida and 13 off the pace of the regatta leaders and hosts, Charleston.
Competing in the 420 class, PJ Rodrigues delivered a standout performance in the B Division alongside crew William Alvarado. The pair demonstrated impressive consistency in challenging waters, guiding their boat into third place with 30 points to anchor Eckerd’s challenge.
In the A Division, Jordan Vieira teamed up with crew Avery Guck to navigate a fiercely competitive field, concluding the opening day in 10th position on 57 points.
Their combined 87-point total keeps Eckerd firmly within striking distance of the frontrunners heading into the decisive final day of racing.
