Bermuda’s refereeing ranks have achieved a landmark milestone, with Bermuda Referees Association president Tashun Simons successfully completing the elite Concacaf Video Assistant Referee (VAR) certification programme.
Staged in Miami, Florida, the rigorous course equips match officials with the specialized technical and protocol training required to operate inside the VAR room during high-level confederation fixtures.
Simons' qualification represents an important breakthrough for Bermudian officiating, opening doors for local referees to be appointed to major regional tournaments—including the Concacaf Nations League, Champions Cup, and youth championships—where video review technology is now standard practice.
The achievement also signals a broader step forward for the development of match officials on the island, creating a direct pathway to elite continental duties and establishing valuable expertise that can be fed back into Bermuda’s domestic game.
