Sanchez Smith and Christine Dailey produced standout performances to claim the men’s and women’s titles at the Powerade 5K.
Taking on a testing, winding circuit through Devonshire, Smith produced a measured run to take overall victory, while Dailey delivered an exceptional effort to finish fourth overall and comfortably take top honours in the women’s field.
Setting off from Butterfield & Vallis on Orange Valley Road, runners faced a course full of twists and tactical turns. The route funnelled competitors onto Middle Road and down along Parsons Lane, sweeping through to Palmetto Road before looping via Frog Lane, back onto Middle Road, and down Orange Valley for the final charge home.
Smith handled the route with precision, pulling clear of the chasing pack to cross the line first in a winning time of 17 minutes 27.38 seconds.
Oliver Brunnock proved his closest challenger, taking second place in 17:44.63, while Tim Price rounded out the podium positions with a solid third-place finish in 19:03.78.
In the women's race, Dailey was in a class of her own. Not content with simply leading her division, she mixed it with the front-runners overall, storming across the line in 19:41.22 to finish fourth across the entire field.
Stepanka Sprincova crossed as second female—finishing sixth overall—stopping the clock at 20:22.39.
The women’s podium was completed by Mae Tirfe, who clocked 20:42.63 to seal ninth place overall on what proved to be a fast and fiercely contested morning on the roads.
