Ann Symonds surged to the top of the leaderboard and Dave Abraham mounted a dramatic second-round climb as Bermuda's golfers built on their strong start at the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championships in South Carolina.
Symonds delivered a clinic in Flight 53 (Women 59 & Under), carding a second-round 78 to take outright control of the division. Compatriot Angela Cook improved her overall position, shooting a 93 to finish the second round tied for 18th.
In Flight 22 (Mid Senior Men 60–69), Dave Abraham produced the comeback of the day for the island contingent. Having opened with an 83, Abraham fired an impressive second-round 78 to rocket up the standings into second place overall. Playing partner Antony Than carded a 96, leaving him tied for 45th heading into day three.
Women's Gross (Flight 52): Tracy Burgess continued her steady play at the sharp end of the field, backing up her opening 79 with an 82 to remain firmly in contention in a tie for seventh.
Senior Women (Flight 55, 60 & Above): Ann Mitchell carded a second-round 93, leaving her tied for 20th as she battles to stay within striking distance of the top ten.
Super Senior Men (Flight 44, 70–79): Gary Venning made significant gains after an opening 105, slicing 14 strokes off his previous round with a 91 to climb to tied-38th.
Senior Men (Flight 9, 50–59): Richard Marriott showed consistency with an 83 on day two, remaining 49th in a tightly bunched field.
