Bermuda's Patton Claims Race Win after Frustrating Wind Delay

IslandStats.com
A lengthy wind delay gave way to a dramatic afternoon on the water as the 2026 ILCA 7 Men's World Championship resumed in Ireland.

Breeze finally filled in at approximately 2:15pm, allowing the 140-boat fleet to launch from the National Yacht Club and Royal St George Yacht Club. Once under way, Bermuda's sailors experienced mixed fortunes across the Silver and Bronze fleets.

Sebastian Kempe endured a testing day in the Silver Fleet, slipping down the standings after two challenging races.

Kempe opened his afternoon with a 27th-place finish before recovering slightly to take 17th in the day's second contest. The results leave him sixth in the Silver Fleet and 53rd overall with 137 net points heading into the next round of competition.

Campbell Patton produced a stunning turnaround in the Bronze Fleet, capping his day with an emphatic race victory.

After a difficult start that saw him finish 26th in the opening encounter, Patton responded in style to cross the line first in the day's final race. He came off the water sitting 115th overall on 232 net points, buoyed by the late win.
