Bermudian all-rounder Isaiah O’Brien experienced a day of contrasting fortunes as the Ontario Cricket Association Under-19s (OCA) recorded a win and a loss during Week 2 of the Canadian International Festival.
O'Brien contributed with both bat and ball across two demanding fixtures, helping OCA to a five-wicket opening victory over Youngstars before suffering a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of the Trinidad and Tobago Secondary School Cricket League (TT SSCL) Under-19s.
Game 1: OCA Cruise Past Youngstars
In the opening clash of the day, OCA produced a composed all-round display to secure a comfortable five-wicket win.
Batting first, Youngstars were restricted to 107 for 7 from their 20 overs. O'Brien played his part in the field and with the ball, finishing with tidy figures of 0 for 12 from two overs and taking a sharp catch to back up a disciplined bowling unit.
OCA’s reply was measured and efficient. O'Brien provided valuable middle-order impetus, chipping in with a handy 16 off 19 deliveries to help steer his side across the line at 110 for 5 with overs to spare.
Game 2: Trinidad & Tobago Prove Too Strong
The afternoon fixture proved far more challenging as OCA came up against a clinical TT SSCL outfit.
Taking first strike, OCA struggled to generate momentum against an aggressive bowling attack and were bundled out for 98. O'Brien was unable to repeat his earlier batting heroics, falling without scoring during a tough middle-overs collapse.
TT SSCL made light work of the modest target in reply. Despite O’Brien sending down an over (0 for 13), the Caribbean side cruised to 104 for 3 to wrap up a seven-wicket victory and hand OCA their first setback of the festival's second week.
