The Ontario Cricket Association Under-19s, featuring Bermudian player Isaiah O’Brien, secured a hard-fought eight-run victory over the Trinidad and Tobago Secondary School Cricket League Under-19s in the Canadian International Festival Under-19 tournament.
Electing to bat first, Ontario posted a competitive total of 131 for six from their allotted 20 overs.
The innings was anchored by a superb half-century from Arjun Singh Benipal, who top-scored with 51 to lay a solid foundation for his side. O'Brien contributed a valuable seven runs lower down the order as Ontario set a target of 132.
In response, the Trinidad and Tobago outfit made a strong fist of the chase but ultimately fell just short, finishing on 123 for six from their 20 overs.
Aadi Ramsaran led the fightback for Trinidad with a well-made 33, but brilliant work in the field by Ontario proved decisive, resulting in four costly run-outs that disrupted the chasing side's momentum.
Rishit Badheka was the standout bowler for the Ontario U19s, turning in a key spell of two for 21 from his three overs. O'Brien also played his part in keeping the pressure on during a full four-over stint, finishing with figures of none for 27 as Ontario held their nerve in the closing overs to seal a dramatic win.
