Southampton Rangers successfully defended their Western County Cup title with a comfortable six-wicket victory over Somerset Bridge Recreation Club at White Hill Field.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Somerset Bridge struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Rangers attack, eventually being dismissed for just 88 runs.
Jermal Proctor offered the main resistance for Somerset Bridge, top-scoring with a hard-fought 36. However, spin bowler Derek Brangman proved the orchestrator of their demise, taking three wickets for just 14 runs in a remarkably tight 10-over spell that included five maidens. Swayne Campbell provided vital support, picking up three for 34 from his 6.5 overs to help clean up the lower order.
In reply, Southampton Rangers chased down the target with minimum fuss, reaching 90 for four to seal a comprehensive win.
Dante Wellman top-scored for the champions with a composed 20. Noel Woods was the standout bowler for Somerset Bridge, taking two for 22 from his three overs, but Rangers had plenty in hand as they comfortably retained the silver.
