It was a bumper weekend of competitive football across the English pyramid, with several Bermudian players in action for their respective clubs in cup and league duty.
Nathan Trott and his Cardiff City team-mates got their competitive campaign off to a winning start with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Swindon Town at the Cardiff City Stadium. A double from Yousef Salech alongside a winner from debutant Jack Moylan was enough to send the Bluebirds through to the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Elsewhere in the Carabao Cup, Nahki Wells played a starring role as Luton Town secured a comfortable victory on the road at League Two side Gillingham to book their place in the next round. Luton took the lead through a clinical first-half strike from Wells before teenage academy graduate Benny Benagr sealed the win, arriving first to tuck home the rebound after another powerful effort from Wells was parried.
In non-league action, Reggie Lambe enjoyed a successful trip with Ipswich Wanderers, who claimed a 2-0 victory away at Wroxham FC at Trafford Park.
Willie Clemons also helped his side pick up an opening-day point as Leiston FC played out a 1-1 draw against Anstey Nomads in their Southern League Central Premier Division opener.
Kane Crichlow tasted success on the road as Dagenham and Redbridge battled to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Dorking Wanderers at the Meadowbank ground.
However, it was an afternoon of disappointment for several other Bermudians across the divisions. Keziah Martin and Hereford FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Buxton in their National League North opener at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium.
Milan Butterfield and Halesowen Town also came away empty-handed after falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Bury Town at Ram Meadow.
Ne-Jai Tucker endured a difficult start to the season as Walton and Hersham suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat away to Folkestone Invicta at the Alcaline Stadium in their Enterprise National League opener.
In the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round, Brighton Morrison and Binfield FC saw their cup run end early with a 2-0 loss to Didcot Town at the Loop Meadow Stadium.
Meanwhile, Harry Twite was an unused substitute as Basford United secured a 1-0 win over Barwell in their Northern Premier League Midlands Division opener, while Ayleal Dill also watched from the bench as Grantham Town fell 2-0 to Lincoln United.
