While there were frustrating set-backs on the track and the netball court, the nation's sailors provided a bright spark with outstanding performances on the water off Salinas Beach.
Adriana Penruddocke extended her command of the 1 Person Women’s Dinghy Preliminaries with a flawless display.
Penruddocke secured back-to-back victories in both of the day's races, bringing the fleet's total to 10 completed races. The double win leaves her sitting comfortably on 11 net points, holding an imposing eight-point cushion over her nearest rival at the top of the standings.
In the 1 Person Men’s Dinghy, Sebastian Kempe continued his steady form to remain firmly in medal contention. Kempe took third place in the opening race of the day before pushing hard to secure second in the afternoon session. With 10 races now under his belt, he sits in third position overall on 19 net points.
Over at the Ciudad Juan Bosch Sports Complex, Bermuda’s women’s netball team suffered a 44-29 defeat at the hands of Saint Lucia in their Group A clash.
The contest began as a tight, neck-and-neck affair, with the sides locked at 10-10 at the end of the first quarter. However, Saint Lucia began to assert their dominance in the second period, outscoring Bermuda 12-8 to take a 22-18 advantage into the half-time interval.
Saint Lucia decisively pulled away after the break. A dominant third quarter saw them score 11 goals while restricting Bermuda to just five, extending their lead to 33-23. The final period followed a similar script, with Saint Lucia adding a further 11 goals while holding Bermuda to six to seal a comfortable 15-goal victory.
There was also action inside the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, where Dage Minors lined up in a competitive field for the Men's 1500m Final.
Minors battled hard throughout a tactical race but was ultimately unable to challenge the lead pack in the closing stages. He crossed the line in ninth place, stopping the clock at 3:53.93.
